Where Should I Eat?

A Social way of deciding where to eat.

UX Design

Objective

To make a almost impossible task simple with little to no stress. Allowing for more time for talking and less time arguing.

Research

Looking closely at the competition and picked out what we liked and didn’t like from the other apps. We did lots of brainstorming to figure out what we wanted to add and felt was most important.

Process

We started off brainstorming many different idea’s for apps and we both really liked the idea of making an app that would easily suggest places to eat depending on your location.

Once we came up with the idea of making a app about food we wrote down things that should be included in the app We knew we wanted a random option almost like a roulette wheel. We also wanted the food to be at the forefront.

Along the way we got critiqued and fixed the problems that most users had. For example in our first iteration a lot of people didn’t understand the “Random” button. So we added more text to the random button to make it more clear.

Identity & Design System

The personality of our brand is social influences, we wanted the food aspect of the app to connect with the social aspect.

We wanted the similar looking colors connect with our users as if they are still using their favorite social media platform. In the future we want our app to be conjoined with many of the popular social media platforms so that all your friends can see that you use our app.

We wanted our food to shine so we kept a nice subtle color pallet and bring in aspects of social media elements and colors.

Conclusion

We had a great time coming up with this app and designing it every step of the way. We thought that working with a partner would be difficult but in fact it was easy and pretty straight forward. We learned a lot working with each other and feel that we executed our work pretty well.

Our Thoughts

“Working on WSIE was an interesting experience simply because of how we had to discover habits people have when they are hungry and when they use their phones. Working together on this project helped out from brainstorming to the design and testing. Getting this all together was a great experience.”

“Where Should I Eat was a fun and challenging project to work on. Its difficult to work on a project with a partner with two different design ideas and styles. But we pulled together and got it done, without to much discrepancies. It was awesome seeing from the brainstorming stage to the final project that we were able to test on a phone.

If I were to improve anything on the new version I would like to add me social integration such as  “like” and “dislike” buttons built into the app without them having to go to the location first.”
